Thursday, April 5, 2018
6:00 PM Refreshments
6:30 - 8:00 PM Program
Schultz Center
4019 Boulevard Center Drive, Jacksonville
Speakers: Amber Holley and Elizabeth McConney, Jacksonville Public Library
Topic: Story Journeys: Interactive Read-alouds for Your Classroom
The Duval County Reading Council held its final meeting of the year on Thursday, April 5th, and it was a fun evening for those in attendance. Speakers Amber Holley and Elizabeth McConney, had us up on our feet, laughing, and learning. A few of our members even showed off their acting skills while performing the group story we developed called "GoldieAnteater and the Three Tortoises". (You needed to be there to see how we came up with that title!).
Also on the program was the presentation of the Lisa G. Wells Past Presidents' Literacy Award to Debbie Sanders, an extraordinary supporter of children, teachers, and the DCRC. Debbie is the representative for Heinemann, Snap Learning, and Booksourse in north Florida and has gone far beyond that role to help DCRC realize its goals this year providing professional development opportunities to our members.
The room looked festive decked out in childrens' book themes for Table Tales. Thank you to those who sponsored a table and delighted us with their creativity.
President-elect, Rebekah Mitchell presented a beautiful bouquet to out-going president, Tamara Bettes. Tamara has been a steadfast leader throughout the year and worked tirelessly to serve literacy educators and the Duval County Reading Council.
