We Are a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Professional Organization for Educators and Other Advocates of Literacy in Our Schools and Community.

Duval County Reading Council operated for over 60 years in northeast Florida sponsoring community literacy projects and serving teachers.  In September 2018, the organization legally changed its name to ​Duval Literacy Association (DLA) to align with the organizations with which it is affiliated, ​​Florida Literacy Association (FLA) and International Literacy Association (ILA), and to more fully represent the scope of work addressed by professionals who teach reading and writing.

DLA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit professional organization of educators in the Jacksonville, FL area whose mission is to support literacy leaders and teachers in schools and promote literacy throughout the community.

Florida Literacy Association (FLA) and International Literacy Association (ILA), are nonprofit professional organizations committed to the promotion of lifetime reading habits, the improvement of literacy instruction, and advocacy for literacy worldwide.

Who are our Members?

Our members are primarily educators who teach reading, writing, and other literacy-related subjects in our community's public schools, charter schools, private schools, and colleges. Our membership also includes those in literacy leadership positions as well as individuals who serve as literacy advocates in other professions or agencies in the area. All are welcome to join us in our endeavors.
