VIRTUAL CONFERENCE - FEBRUARY 18 - 6:30P.M.
Please join the Duval Literacy Association tonight (February 18), at 6:30p.m. for our Virtual Conference series.
We will offer the following three concurrent sessions.

Engagement and Connections in the Virtual Setting
Presented by Tabetha Cox (4th Grade Teacher, Florida Virtual School)
This session will discuss the evolution of engagement practices and the rapid decline in engagement with new virtual learning platforms. We will explore what kids really want their teachers to bring to the learning table and explore growth mindset from the teacher’s side. Most importantly, you will be introduced to engaging strategies to bring culture and connection into your virtual classroom.

Using Multicultural Books with Intention
Presented by Lunetta Williams (Professor, UNF) and Dr. Robert Kelly (Assistant Professor, JU)
The books teachers and parents select play a significant role in students’ academic progress, as well as social and cultural learning.  In this session, we will discuss important aspects of selecting multicultural literature with intention to add to your classroom library, including the notion of accretion.  Join us as we share fun, engaging multicultural books as well as ideas that you can implement in your class tomorrow.

FREE Multicultural Resources at the Touch of a Button!
Presented by Rebekah Mitchell (Youth Learning Manager, Jacksonville Public Library)
This session will introduce you to several electronic resources free to Duval County educators that can bring high quality multicultural texts, videos, and articles into your classroom. We will explore ways you can use these resources to inspire learning through hands-on activities and high-quality conversation with your students.
